Inspiration is everywhere..... even in the darkest corners of life

​

My body of work in this exhibition is an ensemble of ideas that were derived from the core of life itself - the family.

Familularity  with figurative and portraiture drawing and comfortableness with the brush and easel I felt a strong desire to make my art have meaning and provide a narrative for the issue of child sexual abuse. 

 By means of empathy a carefully selected colour palette using monotone underpainting in dark umbers, blues and grey greens to build a sense of deep sadness and apathy. Chiaroscurro technique was used to draw light into the darkness specifically to bring to attention to the subject of the piece whilst also creating a heavy somber mood in each piece of the collection "Somethings Not Quite Right".

The picture book "No" containing intaglio dry-point plated prints. Hand painted with very slight water-colour,  allows the "scratchiness and bruising" of the ink on the paper to visually communicate a very dramatic and specific message for those unable or too afraid to speak out.

It is my belief that as artists we have the ability to make a difference. It is my desire as an artist to try.
