Ann Babinard

I feel privileged to live surrounded by the natural landscape of the Blue Mountains. Yet somehow I don’t feel comfortable with the idea of venturing alone out there. For some time now I’ve been exploring with my art the way our internal states of mind, as well as the perceived physical features of the environment affect the way we see the landscape. It’s hard to escape the influence of a long history of stories and myths about the “deep dark woods”!

In my current body of work, Landscape and the mind, I hope to capture a sense ambiguity, or perhaps of unease or discomfort in the landscape, in order to create an awareness of the influence of imagination on the way we view the natural environment.
